Qasr Mshatta is the ruin of an Umayyad winter palace about 30 km south of Amman, Jordan, probably commissioned by Caliph Al-Walid II during his brief reign (743–744). Built of brick and one of the Desert Castles of the Southern Levant, it was never completed. Much of the ruin remains in situ, but its celebrated facade was removed and is displayed at the Pergamon Museum in Berlin.
