Quedlinburg Abbey is a former abbey of secular canonesses in Quedlinburg, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany, founded in 936 by Saint Matilda, widow of the East Frankish King Henry the Fowler, as his memorial. It was one of about forty self-ruling Imperial Abbeys of the Holy Roman Empire until its dissolution in 1802/3. Its castle, abbey, and church are exceptionally well preserved masterpieces of Romanesque architecture and have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1994.
