Raglan Castle stands just north of the village of Raglan in Monmouthshire, south-east Wales, and is a National Monument of Wales, a Grade I listed building and a scheduled monument. Built between the 15th and early 17th centuries by the Herbert and Somerset families, it is distinguished by its large hexagonal keep, the Great Tower or Yellow Tower of Gwent. Occupied by Royalists for Charles I, it was taken by Parliamentarian forces in 1646 and its walls slighted, after which it became a romantic ruin and is now a tourist attraction.
