Built in 1906 and constructed of cast iron, the Recalada a Bahía Blanca Light stands 67 meters tall at the entrance to Bahía Blanca in Monte Hermoso, Buenos Aires Province, Argentina. Also known as Monte Hermoso Light or simply Recalada Light—"recalada" meaning landfall—it remains an active navigational aid. At the world's eleventh-tallest traditional lighthouse and the tallest in the Southern Hemisphere, it holds the distinction of being the highest lighthouse built of metal in the lattice tower configuration. Designated a National Historical Monument of Argentina, it represents a significant work of late nineteenth-century maritime engineering.
