The Robert S. Vance Federal Building and United States Courthouse stands at 1800 5th Avenue North in Birmingham, Alabama. Designed by James A. Wetmore in the Beaux-Arts style and built in 1921, it served as a federal courthouse and post office and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976. Congress renamed it in 1990 for Judge Robert Smith Vance, a federal appeals judge killed by a mail bomb the previous year, and it remains in use by the U.S. Bankruptcy Court.
