Roman Rock Lighthouse stands in False Bay near Simon's Town, South Africa, and is the only lighthouse in the country built on a single rock. Designed by Alexander Gordon and constructed in cast iron, the 14-metre tower first exhibited its light on 16 September 1861 and was electrified in 1992 at the request of the South African Navy.
