Rönnskär Lighthouse stands on a small islet about 9 kilometres south of the Porkkalanniemi peninsula in the western Gulf of Finland, in Kirkkonummi. Completed in 1800 on the orders of King Gustaf IV Adolf, while Finland was still part of Sweden, it is one of the oldest extant lighthouses in Finland. It has a square granite base topped by a round brick tower, the base left in natural grey stone and the tower painted white, and it stands 15 metres high. Decommissioned in 1928, it has since served as a communications and radar monitoring facility for the Finnish Navy and Coast Guard, and the island is a military zone with no public access.
