The Church of Saint-Germain-des-Prés is a Catholic parish church in Paris's Saint-Germain-des-Prés quarter on the Left Bank. It began as the church of a Benedictine abbey founded in 558 by Childebert I, son of Clovis, and was later rebuilt with Gothic elements, including some of the earliest flying buttresses in the Île-de-France. Most of the abbey was destroyed during the French Revolution, but the chapel survived and became the parish church. It is considered the oldest surviving church in Paris.
