The Royal Palace of Madrid, on Bailén Street in central Madrid, is the official residence of the Spanish royal family and is used mainly for state ceremonies. Built from scratch between 1738 and 1755 on the site of the Alcázar, which burned in 1734, it was designed by Filippo Juvarra and Giovanni Battista Marchetti, with Ventura Rodríguez, Francesco Sabatini and Martín Sarmiento also involved. Its late Baroque classicism is paired with 3,418 rooms, making it the largest royal palace in Europe.
