The Royal Palace of Naples stands in Piazza del Plebiscito in the historic centre of Naples, Italy. Begun in 1600 by Domenico Fontana as the residence of the Spanish viceroys, it became the main residence of the Bourbons from 1734. A fire in 1837 led Gaetano Genovese to largely rebuild it. The western half is now a museum of the Royal Apartment, and the eastern half houses the National Library.
