The Royal Palace (Slottet) stands at the end of Karl Johans gate in central Oslo, Norway, and serves as the official residence of the Norwegian monarch. Designed by Hans Linstow in the Neoclassical style and built of brick from 1849, it was commissioned as the Norwegian residence of Charles XIV John, the French-born king of Norway and Sweden. It is surrounded by the Palace Park, with the Palace Square in front.
