Located at Schließmanngasse 11 in Vienna's 13th district, the Rufer House was designed by Adolf Loos in 1922 for Josef and Marie Rufer. It stands as the first built example of Raumplan, Loos's revolutionary approach to interior spatial organization that departed from the preceding Free Plan style by introducing a carefully orchestrated interplay of varied ceiling heights and room volumes. Though less celebrated than some of Loos's other works, this modest single-family residence established the architectural principles that would define his subsequent designs and secured its status as a listed heritage object in Austria.
