The Sabine Pass Lighthouse stands on the Louisiana side of the Sabine River in Cameron Parish, across from the Texas community of Sabine Pass. Built in 1856 in the Greek Revival style and first lit in 1857, it is one of only three lighthouses of its design built in the United States. The Coast Guard deactivated it in 1952, and it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1981. It is now abandoned, though preservation efforts have continued.
