The Sagrestia Vecchia, or Old Sacristy, stands in the Basilica of San Lorenzo in Florence, Italy, and is the older of the basilica's two sacristies. Designed by Filippo Brunelleschi and begun in 1419, it is built of limestone and is considered one of the most important monuments of early Italian Renaissance architecture. Paid for by the Medici family, who also used it for their tombs, it set the tone for a new architecture built around proportion, unity of elements, and the classical orders.
