Saint-Germain l'Auxerrois is a Gothic Catholic church in the 1st arrondissement of Paris, directly across from the Louvre Palace. Begun in 1220 and built of Saint-Leu stone, it was substantially modified in the 15th and 16th centuries. From 1608 to 1806 it served as the parish church for the inhabitants of the Louvre, and it holds the tombs of many artists and architects who worked on the palace. It is a classified historical monument.
