Designed by Czech-American architect Antonín Raymond and completed in Victorias, Philippines, Saint Joseph the Worker Chapel stands as the first example of modern sacred architecture in the country. The Roman Catholic church, located within the Victorias Milling Company residential complex, was engineered to withstand earthquakes through an innovative structural system of movable beams connecting its nave and tower sections. Raymond, already recognized as a founder of modern architecture in Japan, also tailored the design for the Philippine climate, maximizing air circulation to cope with hot and humid conditions. The church gained additional prominence through its striking modern altar painting of an "Angry Christ," rendered in vivid colors by Filipino-American abstract expressionist Alfonso Ossorio. Recognized as part of the Philippines' industrial heritage, the chapel was designated an Important Cultural Property in December 2015.
