The Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, known as Salamanca's New Cathedral, stands as one of Spain's largest cathedrals alongside its older counterpart in this Castilian city. Commissioned by Ferdinand V of Castile and constructed over two centuries from 1533 to 1733, the building synthesizes late Gothic, Plateresque, and Baroque architectural styles. Designed by Rodrigo Gil de Hontañón, its bell tower rises 92 meters, ranking among the tallest in Spain. The cathedral serves as the seat of the diocese of Salamanca and is recognized as both a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a bien de interés cultural.
