Salisbury Cathedral, formally the Cathedral Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary, is an Anglican cathedral in the city of Salisbury, England, regarded as a leading example of Early English Gothic design. Begun in 1220 and largely complete by 1258, it has a unity unusual among medieval English cathedrals. Its spire, at 123 metres, is the tallest in England, and the cathedral holds one of four surviving original copies of Magna Carta.
