The Sandy Hook Lighthouse stands about one and a half miles inland from the tip of Sandy Hook, New Jersey. Designed and built in 1764 by Isaac Conro, it is the oldest working lighthouse in the United States. Originally about 500 feet from the tip, it was left inland as littoral drift extended the shoreline. It is a National Historic Landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
