Santa Maria Formosa, formally the Church of the Purification of Mary, is a brick church in Venice, northern Italy, erected in 1492 to the design of Renaissance architect Mauro Codussi. It stands on the site of an earlier church that tradition dates to the 7th century and links to San Magno, bishop of Oderzo. Its name is said to derive from an alleged appearance of the Virgin in the guise of a voluptuous woman.
