Sardar-e Bozorg Ab Anbar, built in 1812 in Qazvin, Iran, is the largest single-domed water reservoir of its kind in the country. Constructed in the Qajar architectural style, this heritage structure was commissioned by Mohammad Hassan Khan and Mohammad Hossein Khan, two brothers who also built the smaller Sardar-e Kuchak Ab Anbar nearby. Rising 28.5 meters high, the reservoir spans 3,000 square meters and originally drew water from a qanat system. Built of brick, tile, saruj, and lime mortar—traditional materials that enabled its sophisticated underground design—the building demonstrates the sophisticated hydraulic engineering and decorative craftsmanship of Qajar-era Iran.
