The Shtyki Memorial, located on the outskirts of Zelenograd along the Leningrad highway, is a Soviet Modernist complex honoring those who defended Moscow during the Second World War. Completed in 1974, the memorial was designed by architects Igor Pokrovsky and Y. A. Sverdlovsky, with sculptors A. G. Shteyman and E. A. Shteyman-Derevyanko. Its distinctive centerpiece is a stylized obelisk representing three bayonets held together, from which the memorial takes its name. The complex encompasses a common grave where burials began in the winter of 1941, followed by the completion of the architectural elements three decades later. Now recognized as a regional cultural heritage site, the memorial serves as a permanent testament to the sacrifice of Moscow's defenders.
