Siena Cathedral (Duomo di Siena) is a Gothic Catholic cathedral in Siena, Italy, now dedicated to the Assumption of Mary and standing 77 metres high. Designed and built between 1215 and 1263 on the site of an earlier structure, it is known for alternating white and greenish-black marble stripes, colours that echo the black and white symbolism of the city. Its dome, completed in 1264, was later topped with a lantern by Gian Lorenzo Bernini.
