Southwark Cathedral is an Anglican cathedral on the south bank of the River Thames, close to London Bridge, in the London Borough of Southwark. It is the mother church of the Diocese of Southwark, which it became the cathedral for only in 1905, though it has been a place of Christian worship for more than 1,000 years. The present Gothic building retains the basic form of a structure built between 1220 and 1420, with a late 19th-century reconstruction of the nave, and it is a Grade I listed building.
