St. Basil Catholic Church, located at 3611 Wilshire Boulevard in Los Angeles's Wilshire district, is a brutalist parish church designed by architect Albert C. Martin, Sr. Constructed between 1967 and 1969, the building was dedicated in 1969 as part of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles's Our Lady of the Angels Pastoral Region. Shortly after its completion, the church became the focus of Chicano Movement protests in 1969 and 1970, when demonstrators objected to the archdiocese's substantial investment in the building's construction rather than in poverty relief and social justice programs.
