St. John's Episcopal Church stands at Sixteenth and H Streets NW in Washington, D.C., beside Lafayette Square, one block from the White House. Designed by Benjamin Henry Latrobe in the Greek Revival style and completed in 1816, it is often called the "Church of the Presidents," since every sitting president has attended at least once since it was built, beginning with James Madison. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1960.
