The Cathedral of St. Lawrence stands in the city centre of San Lorenzo, Paraguay, and is the seat of the Catholic diocese of San Lorenzo, instituted by Pope John Paul II in 2000. Dating from the early twentieth century, its completion took about fifty years. Built in the Gothic Revival style, it is considered unique in Paraguay, and the cathedral and its surrounding squares occupy an entire city block.
