St Mary the Virgin's Church in the riverside hamlet of North Stoke, West Sussex, is a partly eleventh-century Norman cruciform church set within a loop of the River Arun on an ancient earthwork of pre-Christian origins. Built around 1001, the largely unrestored structure preserves architectural features and internal fittings spanning centuries, including early stained glass and wall paintings, though it contains few memorials compared with other Sussex churches of similar age. The church was rededicated to St Mary the Virgin in 2007 after its medieval dedication was unexpectedly rediscovered. Declared redundant in 1992, it has since been entrusted to the Churches Conservation Trust and is Grade I listed by English Heritage for its architectural and historical significance.
