St. Mel's Cathedral in Longford, Ireland, is the Roman Catholic cathedral of the Diocese of Ardagh and Clonmacnoise, dedicated to Saint Mél, who was ordained bishop at Ardagh. Built in brick in the Neoclassical style between 1840 and 1856, with its belfry and portico added later, it is regarded as the flagship cathedral of the Irish midlands. A fire destroyed it on Christmas Day 2009, and the restored cathedral reopened in December 2014.
