St. Michaelis in Lüneburg, Lower Saxony, is a brick Gothic parish church that originated as a Benedictine monastery abbey church, begun in 1376 and substantially completed by 1400. Rising 79 meters, the church exemplifies the distinctive brick Gothic tradition of northern Germany. Following the Reformation, it converted to Lutheran worship. The building gained additional cultural significance through its associated school, where Johann Sebastian Bach studied as a pupil for two years. Today it stands as a recognized architectural heritage monument in Lower Saxony.
