St. Philip's Episcopal Church stands at 129 West Mound Street in Circleville, Ohio, occupying a site rich in local history. The stone church building, erected in 1866 and consecrated in 1868, blends Gothic and Tudor Revival styles. Known colloquially as the "Little Church on the Mound," it sits atop the foundation of a former Native American earthwork called Mount Gilboa. The church's origins trace to May 26, 1817, when Rev. Philander Chase, who would become the first bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Ohio, held the area's first Episcopal service here. In 1918, a Tudor Revival parish hall was added without compromising the building's architectural integrity, as both structures draw inspiration from older English designs. Recognized for its well-preserved historic character, St. Philip's was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986 and remains an active parish today.
