This apartment building in Turku, Finland, designed by Alvar Aalto in 1928, exemplifies the Finnish modernist architect's early approach to residential housing. As a standard rental house, it reflects Aalto's practical engagement with affordable multifamily dwelling—a concern that would define much of his career. Built during the height of functionalist architecture's emergence in Northern Europe, the building demonstrates Aalto's characteristic integration of modernist principles with attention to livability and human scale.
