Stockholm Palace, also called the Royal Palace (Kungliga slottet), stands on Stadsholmen in Gamla stan, the old town of Stockholm, Sweden. It is the official residence of the Swedish monarch and is used by the King for representative purposes as head of state, though the King and Queen usually live at Drottningholm Palace. Designed by Nicodemus Tessin the Younger on the site of the medieval Tre Kronor Castle, which burned in 1697, the palace was completed by Carl Hårleman after Tessin's death in 1728, and Hårleman designed much of its Rococo interior. It contains 1,430 rooms.
