Superjednostka is one of Poland's largest residential buildings, a 61-meter brutalist tower block completed in 1972 in Katowice's city center near the Spodek arena. Designed by architect Mieczysław Král and inspired by Le Corbusier's Unité d'habitation, this Late Modernist structure was the country's largest residential building at the time of its completion. Stretching 187 meters across the ground, the building accommodates 762 flats, 17 business premises, and 175 underground parking spaces, housing approximately 1,300 residents. The compact apartments, originally designed for couples and single occupants, feature an innovative integrated wall heating system—a practical solution adopted when radiator components failed to arrive on time. Serving as an architectonic counterpart to the Spodek complex across Jerzy Ziętek Square, Superjednostka underwent exterior renovation from 2009 to 2010.
