Designed by Jakob Gartner and completed in 1895, the Opava Synagogue was a distinctive Jewish house of worship in Opava (formerly Troppau), Silesia, combining Romanesque Revival and Moorish Revival architectural styles. The structure was destroyed in 1938 when it was burned and razed to the ground by local Sudeten Germans. Though the synagogue itself was lost, the adjacent rabbinical house, constructed in the same architectural idiom, survived and remains preserved. The street on which the temple stood retains its historical name, "U synagogy."
