The Tankstelle is a brutalist residential tower block completed in 1973 in Munich, designed by Udo von der Muhlen, Jürgen von Gagern, and Gottfried Hansjakob. Built using large panel system construction—a method favored for rapid, economical housing—the building exemplifies the stark geometric forms and exposed concrete aesthetics characteristic of brutalism. Its monumental presence reflects the postwar modernist impulse to create functional, rationally designed housing for urban populations. Recognized as an architectural heritage monument in Bavaria, the Tankstelle remains a notable example of 1970s German residential architecture.
