Located at 225 North Avenue NW in Midtown Atlanta, Tech Tower stands as the architectural centerpiece and oldest surviving building of Georgia Institute of Technology's central campus. Designed by the architectural firm Bruce & Morgan and completed in 1888 as the Academic Building, this red brick Victorian structure showcases Romanesque Revival styling. Originally erected to provide classrooms alongside the adjacent shop building, it became the second structure completed on the Georgia Tech campus. The seven-story central tower, crowned with lighted TECH signs visible across campus, now serves as the administrative hub and focal point of the Georgia Institute of Technology Historic District. The building has hosted significant ceremonies and visits, including one by U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt, and was later dedicated in honor of Lettie Pate Whitehead Evans, recognized as "Tech's greatest benefactor." Monuments and plaques throughout the building and its landscape commemorate philanthropy toward the institute, establishing Tech Tower as an enduring symbol of institutional tradition and school spirit.
