Temppeliaukio Church, a Lutheran house of worship in Helsinki's Töölö neighbourhood, was designed by brothers Timo and Tuomo Suomalainen and completed in 1969. Built directly into solid rock and finished in granite, the church earned the nickname "Rock Church" for its dramatic integration into the bedrock. An exemplary work of modern architecture, this protected heritage building demonstrates the era's bold approach to constructing sacred spaces in harmony with the natural landscape.
