Tewkesbury Abbey, formally the Parish Church of St Mary the Virgin, stands in the town of Tewkesbury in Gloucestershire, England. A former Benedictine monastery, it is now the town's parish church and is considered one of the finest examples of Norman architecture in Britain, with what is described as probably the largest and finest Romanesque crossing tower in England. Building began in the early 12th century, and George Gilbert Scott led its restoration in the late 19th century.
