Tharandt station, located in Saxony's town of Tharandt on the Dresden–Werdau railway, is a 1909 structure built in Swiss chalet style and designated as a cultural heritage ensemble. Historically, the station served as a critical stopover for the attachment of banking engines needed to traverse the steep Steil ramp to Klingenberg-Colmnitz until electrification of the line in 1966. Today it functions primarily as a regional hub and terminus for most trains on the Dresden S-Bahn's line S3.
