Designed by Bauhaus founder Walter Gropius and his partner Marcel Breuer and completed in 1939–40, the Alan I W Frank House is a private residence in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, that represents one of the pioneering masters' most significant residential commission. Conceived as a "Total Work of Art," the spacious, multi-level home was meticulously designed in collaboration with Gropius and Breuer, who oversaw not only the architecture but also the furnishings and landscaping as unified aesthetic and functional elements. The house remains virtually unchanged from its original state, preserving an important example of Bauhaus principles applied to domestic architecture in mid-twentieth-century America.
