The Thomas Michos House in Portland, Oregon, is a Tudor Revival residence listed on the National Register of Historic Places, designed by architect Roscoe Hemenway, a prolific Portland practitioner. The extensive gardens and stonework featuring ponds were created by Swiss-trained landscape architect Adolph Meyer of Alpine Gardens. Built for Thomas and Myrtle Michos, the original owners who founded the Jolly Joan restaurant in 1932—which grew into Oregon's largest and most popular dining establishment, capable of serving up to 12,000 patrons daily—the house reflects the prosperity of its era and the success of its owners' notable business venture.
