The Tidal Pools of Leça da Palmeira is a public swimming complex on the beach of Leça da Palmeira in Matosinhos, near Porto, comprising two natural pools filled with fresh seawater. Designed and built between 1960 and 1973 by Portuguese architect Álvaro Siza Vieira, it represents one of his early modernist works and his second significant project in the locality, following the nearby Boa Nova tea room. The pools exemplify Siza Vieira's integration of architecture with landscape and the sea. Designated a national monument in 2011 and included in UNESCO world heritage consideration since 2017 alongside seven other Siza projects, the complex remains the only Portuguese building featured in Thom Mayne's historical survey *100 Buildings: 1900–2000*. Open seasonally from June to September, the pools are managed by the municipal sports company Matosinhos Sport.
