Located in Tokorozawa, Saitama, the Tokorozawa Aviation Museum stands on the site of Japan's first airfield, which opened in 1911 with a historic flight by Yoshitoshi Tokugawa. Designed by Nikken Sekkei and completed in 1993, the museum is dedicated to chronicling Japan's aviation history through aircraft displays, many offering interactive experiences, and an IMAX theatre. The original single runway from the airfield remains visible and has been preserved as part of the adjacent Tokorozawa Aviation Memorial Park, creating a living connection between the museum and Japan's pioneering aviation heritage.
