The Tolstoy House is an apartment building in Saint Petersburg erected between 1910 and 1912 at the intersection of Rubinstein Street and Fontanka Embankment, commissioned by Major-General Count Mikhail Pavlovich Tolstoy, nephew of the 1812 war hero P. A. Tolstoy. Designed by architect Fyodor Lidval in Nordic Art Nouveau style, the structure is distinguished by its innovative inner street plan comprising three interconnected courtyards, whose facades received decoration as elaborate as the public front elevation. Three-storey arches serving as architectural focal points provide access to this interior passage. Following the owner's death in 1913, the building passed to his widow, Countess Olga Tolstoy. Over the twentieth century it became home to many notable residents. The house was designated a protected regional cultural monument in 2008.
