Town Hall Tower
Kraków, Poland

Exterior only
Visible from the street; the inside is private.
The Town Hall Tower stands on the Main Market Square in Kraków's Old Town, Poland. Built in Gothic style around 1400 and about 70 metres tall, it is an inclined tower and an immovable monument. It is the only surviving part of the old Kraków Town Hall, demolished in 1820 to open up the square. Its cellars once housed a city prison with a medieval torture chamber. After a complex conservation emphasising its Gothic origins, it was placed under the management of the Historical Museum of Kraków in 1967.
