Completed in 1914, the Watertower and heating kettle building at Deventer's train station is a rationalist structure designed by Henri Menalda van Schouwenburg. This utilitarian complex served the operational needs of the railway, supplying water and heat to locomotives passing through the station. Its rationalist architectural approach strips away ornament in favor of functional clarity and efficient design—hallmarks of early twentieth-century industrial building. Now recognized as a Rijksmonument, the building stands as a notable example of Dutch railway infrastructure and rationalist industrial architecture.
