Transfiguration Cathedral stands in Tambov, Russia, as the city's main Eastern Orthodox church and seat of the Tambov Eparchy. Construction began in 1694 under Bishop Pitirim and, for lack of funds, took about 90 years, ending with consecration in 1783. Its five-domed brick building, the city's first brick church, is decorated in the late Baroque style, and a free-standing Neoclassical belltower from the 1810s was pulled down in 1931 and later rebuilt.
