The Traymore Hotel was a prominent resort in Atlantic City, New Jersey, that began as a modest boarding house in 1879 and expanded into one of the city's premier destinations. Designed by architect William Lightfoot Price in the Art Deco style, the hotel embodied the grandeur of Atlantic City's mid-twentieth-century aspirations. However, as the resort town's popularity waned during the 1950s and 1960s, the Traymore's fortunes declined alongside it. By the early 1970s, the once-celebrated hotel had fallen into abandonment and disrepair, ultimately being imploded and demolished between April and May 1972—years before Atlantic City's legalization of gambling would spark the city's later renaissance.
