The United States Post Office stands on Mill Street (US 9) just south of NY 308 at the center of Rhinebeck, New York. Built in 1940 during the New Deal, it is a stone Colonial Revival structure designed by R. Stanley-Brown. President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, a native of nearby Hyde Park, took a personal interest in its design, choosing a ruined historic house as its model and reusing that house's stones in the building. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989 and contributes to the Rhinebeck Village Historic District.
